Rally Bohemia invites for an interesting trip on Ještěd
One of new features of this year Rally Bohemia is the special stage Ještěd. The attractive and sporting locality of this prominent landmark of Liberec region gives a unique opportunity of combining the rally watching with an interesting trip, maybe for the whole family.
Do you still hesitate how to spend the first summer weekend, with the family, going hiking or cycling or watching Rally Bohemia? You do not need any further – Rally Bohemia offers an interesting opportunity this year how to combine an interesting family trip or tourist experience with watching rally, namely its new special stage over Ještěd.
If you decide to watch this Saturday special stage, an ideal programme may be as follows: Leave your car in the large two-floor parking place of Skiareal Ještěd in Liberec – Horní Hanychov, above which the start of the special stage will be located. From this point take a comfortable walk through a forest park to the cable car station and get a ride on the top of Ještěd mountain to the achitecturally unique hotel and restaurant of the same name in the shape of a conical rotary hyperboloid. The place provides you with lunch or dinner as well as with a beautiful view of Liberec, the Jizera mountains, Czech Paradise, Mácha region, actually, of the whole area of Rally Bohemia at the same time. If you are lucky with the weather, you can even see Prague.
Walking down from the hotel some hundreds of metres along the marked mountain paths, you can reach several places near the special stage track. Here you will be able to watch the race cars passing through beautiful technical passages full of hairpin bends when going down from the mountain ridge “Výpřež” to the valley of Křížany. If you decide to come to the special stage from the southern hillside of Ještěd, from Světlá, we recommend using the pub Semering to satisfy hunger and thirst. The pub is a couple of metres from the spectator point at the crossroads near Světlá pod Ještědem.

Do you know that
- in 2000 the building of Ještěd hotel and transmitter became a construction of the century in the Czech architecture;
- the building was competed in 1973, which is a mere year before the first Rally Bohemia (then organized as Rallye Škoda);
- the author of Ještěd hotel and transmitter (communication tower), Karel Hubáček, was awarded with the prestigious Perret prize of the International Union of Architects for this building;
- in 2007 the transmitter was included in the indicative list of UNESCO;
- the silhouette of the communication tower has become an inseparable symbol of the Liberec region so that it has even appeared in the county coat of arms;
- the construction of Ještěd brought a range of new pieces of knowledge and materials proved to then Czechoslovak industry;
- Thanks to these development and experimental steps the hotel was designated a national cultural sight;
- With its combination of technicism and sense for nature the tower holds a unique place in the whole Czech and Middle European architecture of its time;
- from 25th to 27th August 1968 Svobodné studio Sever (Independent Studio North) broadcast from the provisional transmitter, where also actor Jan Tříska and the later President Václav Havel made a live appearance;
- the overall length of pistas at Ještěd is 8.77 kilometres;
- part of the Ještěd sports grounds is also a famous Bike Park, where the Czech Republic competitions in downhill and enduro on mountain bikes take place?
